The defender picked up a hamstring injury in the final of UEFA Champions League but his side successfully won the third consecutive title.
Dani Carvajal is likely to go to Russia for the World Cup
Carvajal was in doubt of whether he’ll be available for the finals or not. But medical tests stated that the hamstring problem isn’t as serious as first feared and Carvajal will remain with Julen Lopetegui’s Spain team squad.
Dani Carvajal missed the UEFA Euro 2016 competition when he suffered a hamstring injury in that year’s Champions League final, but this was not as serious. About the injury, he said
“Thank God it was not as bad as I feared. I had bad memories from the injury during Euros. This diagnosis says it is a minor injury. I am going to try to recover and be available as soon as possible. The Champions League was something incredible, but now I am focused on wearing my country’s shirt.”
He also said that he had yet a chance to speak with Lopetegui about his chances of being named to the final squad, but added: “Soon I will have a chance to meet with everyone and we will arrive at a conclusion.”
Spain’s first FIFA World Cup 2018 match is against Portugal, the current European Champions who won the first title two years ago in France. La Roja was unbeatable in the qualifiers but can they continue this run in the Finals?
