Die Mannschaft was unbeatable in the 20th edition of World Cup that was held in Brazil last time. Brazil met Argentina in the final at the Maracana Stadium where the final took place. Both teams failed to score in the first 90 minutes and extra time was given to both teams.

Loew picked up Gotze as a substitute in the 88th minute who did what the Germans wanted to lift the 4th title. The manager said something to Gotze that helped him in finding the back of the net but it cost him also.

During an event in Berlin Loew said

That sentence was a spontaneous idea. Whether this was good in hindsight, I do not know. I made the mistake of making the sentence public afterwards.

According to him, he should not have made the sentence public. Gotze was only 22 during the Brazil World Cup and he scored the winning goal in the final of biggest Football event. He further said

His comment to inspire him didn’t help Mario over the following few months after conquering the World. He was measured by his stunning impact off the bench in the final.

If a player scores the decisive goal in the final at such a young age, it can be a burden later. This season was not what we have all wished for from Mario Gotze.

Mario Goetze also responded after exclusion from the World Cup squad. He said on Twitter

Of course, I am sad that I won’t be participating at the World Cup, but I will do everything I can to get back into the squad. I hope the guys, the coaches and the back-room staff have a good time in Russia and I’ll keep my fingers crossed for all of them that they become World Champions.
